Milton Car Dealer Guilty of Identity Fraud
MILTON – The owner of a Milton used car dealership has pleaded guilty to several identity fraud charges after registering cars to people who did not own them. Halton Regional Police say they began investigating the Incarnet dealership after a man allegedly received notices for traffic violations and parking offences for a car he did not own.Police eventually arrested Incarnet owner Jan Kowalczyk along with his son. Det. Mark Underwood says both men were jointly charged on 12 counts including multiple instances of identity fraud, but says Kowalczyk reached a plea agreement that saw charges against his son dropped.Kowalczyk pleaded guilty to five counts of identity fraud and one count of uttering a forged document last week.As part of the plea deal, Underwood says both father and son have surrendered their dealer licenses and are barred from obtaining new ones in the future.
